First Loan-July 1960

The first two years saw the continued struggle (scrabble)  between part time jobs and production of concrete paving, the first big breakthrough came with the opportunity to purchase my first plot of land at Drayton St Leonard. The land at the time was being used as a caravan site and the asking price was £275. The property consisted of a well-built timber two storey stable block built in 1880 for Jones the local carrier.   I remember very clearly walking into Lloyds bank Didcot to borrow £300 the only security being my track record on income into my account. On the 1st July 1960 the site became mine and after struggling ( the scrabble) outside in the open I was able to manufacture under cover.  My property journey had begun.
