Ipsden Woods- Summer 1959

Paving was being manufactured at least three times weekly, this was not enough to keep the lorry fully occupied and I needed more work especially during the winter months.  During my travels I heard the Black Horse public house owned the woods at Ipsden (Oxfordshire) where 30 tons of tree tops were being sold.  The 350 year old pub has been owned by the same family for over 100 years and today nothing seems to have changed, it is just a beautiful time warp.  I met the land agent on the roadside looking down this very steep 45 degree incline into a valley covered with large tree tops and tree stumps, I realised I had just bought myself a lot of very hard work. During the light summer months I collected the timber and created a large stack of corded timber ready to cut into 9″logs for winter sales.
