Get Ahead Competition 1961-part two
During the first week of February 1961 I received a letter from the Daily Mail inviting me to a preliminary interview on Tuesday 14th of February 2.15 pm at the Clarendon Court Hotel Maida Vale London. The interview was a very relaxed question and answer format and obviously went very well, because I was then invited to appear on BBC TV 23rd of February for a preliminary round of their ON the spot Get Ahead competition at 9.00 pm. The judges were William Hardcastle, sir Miles Thompson and Valerie Hobson[ Mrs John Profumo], the format was very similar to Mastermind a large solitary black chair in small circle of light with the judges firing questions at the
contestants. All five contestants found the experience very intimidating but I must have impressed the judges because I won that round and was then asked to appear in the quarter final on March the 9th 1961. In the quarter final I was beaten by a secretary who had developed a farm accountancy practise, I left with no hard feelings it had been a fantastic experience and I had won £400 prize money, a great deal of local interest and the confidence to leave the dairy and rely on Rogers Concrete for total income.
